QB Troy Huhn officially decommits from Penn State

Penn State’s Class of 2026 took another hit Thursday evening following the announcement that quarterback Troy Huhn has decided to open up his recruitment. A native of San Marcos, Calif., Huhn committed to the Nittany Lions in the summer of 2024. Despite living on the other side of the country, he’s been a regular visitor, attending multiple games last season, then again in March, May and a few weeks ago for the White Out against Oregon.
However, unlike many others in the class who plan to stick with their commitments for the time being, the firing of James Franklin was enough for Huhn to open up his recruitment entirely.
A four-star prospect in the Industry Rankings, Huhn is ranked No. 234 nationally and No. 17 at the quarterback position. The Mission Hills prospect is having a very strong season, completing 75 percent of his passes for 1,432 yards, 18 touchdowns and just three interceptions.
“Relative to some of his peers, he’s probably on the lower side in terms of production as a sophomore, so we just want to see him continue to improve with his consistency, decision-making and overall level of play on a week-to-week basis on Friday nights,” said Rivals Scouting Director Charles Powers ahead of Huhn’s junior season.

“I think when you look at his skill set, he certainly projects as a pocket passer, but also shows solid reactive quickness to move within the pocket. He has that prototypical stature and will continue filling out. So, I think there’s a good bit to work with here, but we also just want to see continued growth and improvement on Friday nights. I think that will go a long way in determining where he shakes out ultimately from a ranking perspective.”
Penn State is now down to 21 players in its Class of 2026. Huhn is the fourth player in the class to officially open up his recruitment, joining wide receivers Lavar Keys and Davion Brown, as well as cornerback Jaziel Hart.
