Top 10 2027 receiver Khalil Taylor decommits from Penn State

Penn State is down a commitment in its highly-regarded Class of 2027. Four-star receiver and Rivals300 member Khalil Taylor is leaving the Lions’ next recruiting class, according to Rivals’ Hayes Fawcett. He had been committed to the program since March 29.
Listed at 5-foot-11, 180 pounds, Taylor is one of the top-ranked wide receiver prospects in the country, coming in at No. 7 overall by Rivals at the position and No. 11 in the Rivals Industry Rankings. He was previously one of three recruits in Penn State’s 2027 class that had five-star potential. That’s now down to two: running back Kemon Spell and offensive tackle Layton von Brandt.
“Khalil Taylor put together some dominant film,” Rivals Scouting Director Charles Power told BWI back in the spring, shortly after Taylor committed to Penn State. “He’s outstanding with the ball in his hands. I mean, you know it’s going to be good when you’re watching a sophomore and he has a highlight film of just touchdowns. He had a dominant sophomore year with 24 touchdowns and close to 1,300 yards. He has a well-rounded skill set. He’s a guy who can separate with his routes. I think he’s really good with the ball in his hands and has the potential to be a YAC (yards after catch) monster.”

At the time of his commitment, Taylor played at Seton LaSalle, but he decided late in the summer to switch to Class 5A powerhouse Pine-Richland in Gibsonia, Pa. After missing the first game of the season, he’s totaled 12 receptions for 264 yards and eight touchdowns. Last year, he totaled 51 receptions for 932 yards and 22 touchdowns.

Throughout his recruitment, Taylor has totaled 20 scholarship offers. He had taken visits to a handful of regional schools – Pitt, Rutgers, Syracuse – while he also went to Michigan and Notre Dame in June 2024. However, his 13 visits to Penn State were well and beyond any other school.
Prior to Taylor’s decommitment, Penn State had the second-ranked recruiting class in the country for 2027 with three four-star prospects, plus Spell, who holds a five-star rating in the Industry Rankings. The Nittany Lions are now ranked No. 3 in the early stages of the class.
