Penn State is back to 24 commitments in the Class of 2026, as New Jersey offensive lineman Roseby Lubintus backed off his pledge to the Nittany Lions on Wednesday evening. Earlier on Wednesday, Rivals VP of Recruiting and Transfer Portal Steve Wiltfong put in a pick on the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine for Lubintus to flip to Syracuse. He announced for the Orange after stepping back from his Nittany Lions commitment.

“For me I feel like I rushed into it,” he told Wiltfong. “I was searching more for a name than the right place. I was trying to find somewhere that looked the best and not feel the best.

“I realized Syracuse, Coach Fran [Brown], all the coaches there are the best place for me as a person, for football and the best overall.”

The 6-foot-5.5, 350-pound Lubintus committed to Penn State back on April 25. He took an official visit to Syracuse just before making his original decision. He took his official visit with the Nittany Lions on the weekend of May 30 and camped for Penn State offensive line coach Phil Trautwein three times in June.

Penn State is back to 24 commits in its Class of 2026

Lubintus is a three-star prospect by both On3 and the On3 Industry rankings. He checks in as the No. 73 offensive tackle nationally and the No. 15 prospect in New Jersey in the Class of 2026 according to the Industry. On3 has him as the No. 57 offensive tackle nationally and the No. 8 prospect in the Garden State. He’s a three-star prospect according to all four recruiting services.

The Nittany Lions were the first program to offer back in the spring of 2024. Boston College, Florida, Michigan State, Rutgers, Maryland and West Virginia were other programs that eventually offered as well. The Nittany Lions recruited Lubintus as a potential offensive tackle, though guard remained a possibility for his future after an inevitable reshaping period.

BWI’s Thomas Frank Carr projected him as an eventual interior player

“At nearly 6-6, with a massive 35-inch wingspan, Lubintus has the size and length to play tackle,” Carr wrote. “Long term, Lubintus is a tackle option because of his size and general foot quickness, which is fast enough to play on the edge of the pocket.

“However, his play speed and movement skills scream jumbo guard. If you examine the athletic bar set by Penn State’s current tackle room, Lubintus doesn’t quite match what we’ve seen Trautwein value at the position. Lubintus moves more like Sal Wormley than Eagan Boyer at the moment.”

Penn State now has four offensive line commitments in the Class of 2026. Top 100 in-state prospect Kevin Brown leads the way, joined by Detroit center Benjamin Eziuka, New Jersey tackle Marlen Bright and Tennessee tackle Jack Fuchs

The Nittany Lions’ Class of 2026 currently ranks 15th nationally.
