IOWA CITY — Penn State interim head coach Terry Smith held his first postgame news conference on Saturday in his new role following the Lions’ 25-24 loss at Iowa. You can watch the full video above. Penn State led 14-10 at halftime. Their second lead of the game came courtesy of an Elliot Washington field goal block returned for a touchdown. The Hawkeyes inexplicably decided to try a 66-yard boot at the end of the first half. They led 10-7 at the time. They would soon trail. Xavier Gilliam blocked the boot with his left arm. Washington picked it up and raced into the end zone. Penn State eventually grew a 21-10 lead but gave it up throughout the course of the season half.

In the video above, Smith talks about the game, Ethan Grunkemeyer’s debut, his own debut as the Penn State interim head coach, key decisions, and more.
