What is the early Penn State-Ohio State spread?: Newsstand

Penn State news, notes, and updates for Oct. 2 include a look at the Lions’ matchup with Ohio State, their CFP odds, and more.
It’s time to dive into Monday’s top tweets and headlines about the Nittany Lions and college athletics.
Penn State news of the day
We start with a look ahead to Ohio State. The Buckeyes are coming out of a bye week. Penn State enters its, of course. We’ll get to that in a bit. But, first, we’re looking at the early line for the Lions’ trip to Columbus. Head coach James Franklin’s team will first face UMass in two Saturdays before moving on to its Big Ten East foe. When it does, the Lions could be a 6.5-point underdog, according to the early line from FanDuel.
Penn State enters its week away from game competition off of a 41-13 win over Northwestern.
“Overall, very pleased with the win,” Franklin said. “Come on the road in the Big Ten and get a win again after their last game. Going into the bye week, we got some bumps and bruises in this game and in general. So this bye week will be important for us. It’s not an off week. It’s a bye week. We got to use this week to get better in the short term with our program and then the long term for recruiting.”

Quote of the day
“He transfers in here as a senior. Didn’t get a whole lot of reps and a whole lot of burn the first couple of games. And, he just kept a great attitude and kept working. And, when he got opportunities, he maximized them. So, it’s great to see him be able to come in and know that we feel like we got three backs that we can win with in this league.”
