Penn State looks to end a five-game losing streak on Saturday when it welcomes Indiana to Beaver Stadium. The Hoosiers are the No. 2 team in the country and fresh off a blowout win over Maryland. The Lions lead the all-time series 25-2. But, this is the first time they will face the program since head coach Curt Cignetti took over last season.

“That’s the key to the drill to me, I mean, is that you’re playing from the first play to the last play the same,” Cignetti said on Saturday night in College Park. “And we’re getting close to getting that, and we’re real close. And that’s why you see some of the results that you see. There’s not the ups and downs relative to good plays, bad plays, circumstances of the game. You see guys laying it on the line every play. And I give them and the assistants a lot of credit for that.”

The Hoosiers bring the nation’s No. 1 scoring offense and No. 3 scoring defense to Penn State. The Lions are Nos. 49 and 41 in those categories, respectively. It’s why interim head coach Terry Smith’s team is a big underdog for the second week in a row.

What is the Penn State-Indiana spread and total?

BetMGM makes Indiana a 14-point favorite. The over/under betting total is 49.5. Per OddsSharks’ historical point spread database, this will be the first time Penn State is a 14-plus point underdog at home since losing but covering in a 44-31 setback against Ohio State in 2022 as a 15-point underdog. The website’s historical data does now show the Lions ever being more than a 17.5-point home underdog. But this version of the program has lost five straight games and has covered just one time this season when it lost by a point at Iowa.

“Yeah, they’re obviously hurting,” interim head coach Terry Smith said. “You know, we’re in the middle of the storm, and we just can’t figure how to get out of it. The seniors are hurting. I feel awful for those guys to end their careers this way. It’s very challenging. It’s challenging for all of us, but we have to figure out how to keep fighting. We’re going to keep chopping wood. The one positive of the game, these guys did not quit, and that’s a testament to who they are as well. We just got to figure some other things out.”
