Penn State tweets of the day

We start with USA Today’s annual rundown of the highest-paid college football coaches. With a guaranteed salary of $8.5 million before potential performance bonuses in 2023, Penn State coach James Franklin checks in at No. 12 on this year’s list. Alabama’s Nick Saban leads the way at $11.4 million. Clemson’s Dabo Swinney is second at 10.88 million. Georgia’s Kirby Smart ($10.7 million), Ohio State’s Ryan Day ($10.27 million), and Michigan State’s Mel Tucker ($10.02 million) round out the top five. The Spartans may not end up payingTucker after firing him for cause earlier this year. But, lawsuits about that await.

Besides Day and Tucker, no other current Big Ten coaches are ahead of Franklin.

In other news, Flo Wrestling singles out Penn State wrestler Robby Howard as a redshirt wrestler to watch this year at 125 pounds.

“We have seen much of Howard since his 7-6 true freshman season,” Kyle Klingman writes “He won a pair of matches at the 2021 NCAA Championships but has battled injuries ever since.”

Quote of the day

“It’s fluid. That number is constantly changing depending on where they are, their maturity level, their frame; there’s a lot of different factors that go into that. Their body composition, their fat-to-mass ration, it just depends on what we think Drew [Allar] or any other guys on the team can operate most efficiently at on Saturday’s. Drew range is anywhere from 234 to 239 [pounds], that’s what we’ve settled on. That could stay the same going into the third year, but to be honest, it will probably stay close to that range.

“But, we’re going to continue to work on that body composition. And, it also depends on the performance of the individual on the field. Take Olu [Fashanu],for example: If we know he’s getting more push back, then his number’s going to change. And, we’ll probably change it five or 10 pounds so he can anchor down against some of those bull rushers.”
