Where does Penn State rank in the updated Coaches Poll?

Penn State wrapped up its nonconference slate with a 52-6 win over Villanova Saturday in Beaver Stadium. Now, with Oregon coming to town in just under two weeks, all eyes turn to the Ducks in what should be a top-five matchup.

With each of the nation’s top seven programs winning this weekend, not much changed at the top of the Coaches Poll, with Penn State holding firm at No. 2 in the poll. The Big Ten has four teams in the top 10, with Ohio State still at No. 1 overall. Behind Penn State, you’ll find Oregon at No. 5 and Illinois ranked No. 8. Indiana and Michigan also remain in the top-25 at No. 17 and No. 20, respectively.

There was some movement inside the top 10, as Notre Dame lost to Texas A&M at home, 41-40. The Fighting Irish took the lead with just under three minutes to play. However, a botched hold on an extra point ultimately proved to be the difference, as the Aggies drove the ball 74 yards on 13 plays to score on a 4th and Goal with just 13 seconds remaining. The win moved A&M up to No. 10 in the poll, while Notre Dame, which is 0-2 to start the season, dropped to No. 21.

It was also a bad day for the state of South Carolina, as Clemson lost to Georgia Tech, 24-21, while South Carolina lost to Vanderbilt at home, 31-7.

With Penn State set for its first of two bye weeks, Nittany Lion fans will be watching Oregon closely next weekend, as the Ducks are set to host rival Oregon State. With the Beavers 0-3 to start the season, Oregon will be a heavy favorite. Illinois also travels to Indiana for the first-ranked game of the season in the Big Ten.

Other notable matchups include No. 16 Texas Tech at No. 18 Utah and No. 25 Auburn at No. 12 Oklahoma.
