Where does Penn State now rank in the updated Associated Press Poll?

Penn State heads into its bye week as the second-ranked team in the country, according to the Associated Press Poll, following a 52-6 win over Villanova. With 13 days and counting now until the biggest home game of the season, the Nittany Lions will get some rest this upcoming weekend before what will be the game of the day next weekend against No. 6 Oregon.

The Nittany Lions can’t look ahead, but the game against the Ducks could be one of two massive showdowns this season. That’s because Ohio State remains at No. 1 in the poll following a 37-9 win over Ohio Saturday evening. Behind the Ducks, you’ll also find Illinois at No. 9, followed by Indiana and Michigan at No. 19 and No. 21, respectively. Also, USC makes its debut at No. 25.

The biggest storyline of the weekend surrounds Notre Dame, as the Fighting Irish dropped to 0-2 to start the season with a 41-40 loss to Texas A&M. The win moved A&M up to No. 10 in the poll, with Notre Dame falling to No. 24. It was also a bad day for the state of South Carolina, as Clemson lost on the road at Georgia Tech, 24-21, while South Carolina was dismantled at home by Vanderbilt, 31-7. Both the Yellow Jackets and Commodores are now ranked.

With Penn State off this upcoming week, Nittany Lion fans will be watching Oregon closely next Saturday, as the Ducks are set to host rival Oregon State. The Beavers have started the season 0-3, making Oregon a heavy favorite. Elsewhere in the Big Ten, Illinois is set to travel to Indiana for the season’s first conference matchup between ranked teams.

Other notable games next week include No. 17 Texas Tech at No. 16 Utah and No. 22 Auburn at No. 11 Oklahoma.
