Where does Penn State rank in the updated Coaches Poll?

It wasn’t the prettiest of wins for Penn State head coach James Franklin and his team, but the Nittany Lions improved to 2-0 Saturday with a 34-0 win over FIU. As expected, the win kept Penn State at No. 2 in the Coaches Poll heading into next weekend’s final nonconference game against Villanova.

“Overall, I am pleased with the win,” Franklin said after the game. “I think we made it harder than it needed to be in a lot of areas. We’re playing a bunch of young guys, and it felt like that at times. So, we have got to get those things cleaned up.”

Michigan’s road loss at Oklahoma was the key result of the weekend in the Big Ten. Despite winning the turnover battle 2-0, the Wolverines couldn’t take advantage of Oklahoma’s mistakes, scoring just one touchdown against the Sooners. Freshman quarterback and former five-star Bryce Underwood also struggled in his first spotlight performance on the road, completing just 9 of 24 attempts for 142 yards. That loss dropped Michigan down to No. 22 in the poll.

But the Big Ten’s other top-ranked programs all had big wins. Ohio State shut out Grambling 70-0, while Oregon totaled 631 yards of offense against Oklahoma State in a 69-3 win at home against the Cowboys. Illinois’ 45-19 win on the road against Manny Diaz’s Duke squad was also impressive.

Nationally, Arizona State, which was previously ranked 10th, went on the road to Mississippi State and lost 24-20. Florida also lost on Saturday to USF at home, 18-16. The Bulls now have wins over the Gators and Boise State. That earned them a spot in the Top 25 this week at No. 23.
