Penn State suffered its first loss of the 2025 season Saturday night, losing to Oregon 30-24 in double overtime. While the Ducks controlled the game in most metrics, the close finish kept the Nittany Lions from dropping too far in the Coaches Poll, with Penn State now ranked No. 6. Meanwhile, the Ducks climbed to No. 2.

It also didn’t hurt that Penn State was one of three top-five programs coming into the weekend to lose, as Georgia lost 24-21 to Alabama at home, while LSU lost 24-19 to Ole Miss on the road. The Bulldogs dropped seven spots to No. 10, while LSU dropped nine spots to No. 13.

In the Big Ten, No. 1 Ohio State stayed undefeated, traveling to the West Coast to beat Washington, 24-6. Indiana also stayed unbeaten with a 20-15 win over Iowa on the road. The Hoosiers are now within the Top 10 at No. 9 in the Coaches Poll. The other marquee game featured USC traveling to Illinois. The Fighting Illini got the best of the Trojans 34-32, winning on a walk-off field goal.

Penn State now heads to the West Coast to face an 0-4 UCLA squad that’s already fired its head coach. The Bruins are coming off a bye week, giving them extra time to prepare, but they’re also nearly a four touchdown underdog at home to Penn State.

Other notable games across the nation next week include Vanderbilt’s trip to Tuscaloosa to face Alabama. The Commodores upset the Crimson Tide at home last season. There’s also a marquee Top 10 matchup that’ll help shape the ACC next week, as No. 3 Miami heads to Tallahassee to take on a Florida State squad that’s coming off an upset loss at Virginia Friday night.
