Who's Number One results: Penn State wrestling commit Landon Sidun scores big win to start junior season

Penn State wrestling Class of 2027 commit Landon Sidun solidified his No. 1 ranking at 120 pounds with a big win at Who’s Number One on Saturday night in Iowa. The Norwin, Pa., standout was returning to competitive action for the first time since a broken hand ended his sophomore season early last winter. However, if you watched his bout with Rocklin Zinkin of California on FLO, you would not know Sidun was away from the mat for a long period of time if you did not already know.
Sidun scored first with a takedown. From there, he only gave up points via Zinkin escapes en route to a 13-4 major decision.
Two first period takedowns gave him a 6-2 lead after one. After the California junior escaped to make it 6-3 after two, the newest member of head coach Cael Sanderson’s next recruiting class poured it on in the third period. After earning an escape, he took down Zinkin and then tilted him for three near fall points. Zinkin escaped with 54 seconds left. But there would be no scoring from there as Sidun kicked off his junior season on a high note.
“Probably sick of hearing it, but this kid is a phenomenal human being, wrestling aside (he’s #1 in the country),” Norwin High head coach Kyle Martin wrote on Twitter. “he’s such a GREAT KID! So blessed to be able to watch him from the bench!”

What’s next for Penn State commit Landon Sidun?
Penn State wrestling has two Class of 2027 commitments and two in the Class of 2026. Three of them are set to compete at Super 32, a prestigious fall event on the high school wrestling calendar, next week in North Carolina. MatScouts lists Sidun as the No. 1 seed at 120 pounds. He figures to likely see Zinkin, who beat Illinois’ Dom Munaretto for the right to wrestle Sidun in the Who’s No. 1 finals, back in a title bout again.
Moving up to 138, MatScouts has senior Penn State commit Sam Herring, of Johnstown, Pa., Bishop McCort, as the No. 2 seed. Class of 2027 commit Gavin Mangano of New York is No. 3. Both are behind Minnesota Class of 2026 commit Tyler Dekraker.
As of this point in time, it does not appear that the Lions’ other Class of 2027 standout, New Jersey reigning 150-pound champ Jayden James, is registered for this event.
