Led by Joe Tiller, Purdue finished 8-4 (6-2 Big Ten) in 2000, finishing in a three-way tie for first-place with Michigan and Northwestern. The Boilers ranked No. 13 in the final AP poll as Brees won the Chicago Tribune Silver Football Award as league MVP.
The Boilermakers fell to Washington in the Rose Bowl, 34-24. It was Purdue’s second appearance in Pasadena, Calif., winning the 1967 Rose Bowl vs. USC.
