We celebrate birthday No. 32 (July 13, 2023) with former Purdue standout guard Terone Johnson who played for coach Matt Painter from 2011-14 earning third team All-Big Ten honors and playing a major role in two NCAA appearances.
Johnson, a tough-minded physical guard, appeared in 134 games as a Boilermakers, ranking ninth all-time in school annals. The Indianapolis native averaged 9.8 points per game and averaged 13.5 and 12.0 points over his final two seasons.
“I learned a lot from my highs and lows at Purdue,” Johnson said. “I texted Coach Painter recently thanking him for all he did for me and teaching me good habits. That has really helped me in by business life.
Johnson is co-owner of a real estate firm in Indianapolis with 70 properties. After living in California for eight years, Johnson moved back to Indianapolis a couple of years ago. He played professionally in Greece for one season but moved back to the States when his son Terone was born. Johnson is married to former Purdue soccer standout Lauren Montenegro and the couple also has a two-year-old daughter.
“I thanked my son the other day for being such a good kid,” Johnson said with a laugh. “My daughter is a blessing, but she is a handful these days.
Johnson is working on his game and plans to participate in the Boilermakers’ Alumni game on August 5.
“It’s the first time I have been able to participate in one of these events, and I can wait to do it,” Johnson said. Much more with Johnson in the following interview.
