First and 10: Purdue at Northwestern

As we start the week, 10 items of interest as the Boilermakers (2-4 overall; 0-3 Big Ten) travel to Northwestern (4-2; 2-1) on Saturday (3 p.m. ET, BTN):
• Northwestern has won two in a row vs. Purdue and 10 of the last 14.
• Former Purdue LB Yanni Karlaftis is spending his final season at Northwestern. He has 11 tackles in five games. He’s also now going by “Yannis.”
• The Wildcats have won three in a row, coming off a scintillating 22-21 win at Penn State, which fired head coach James Franklin shortly thereafter.
• Purdue ranks second-to-last in the nation in turnover margin (-10), ahead of only Nevada and Florida Atlantic (-11). The Boilermakers have one fumble recovery and one interception.

• Ryan Browne has thrown a Big Ten-high seven INTs. He also has seven TD passes.
• Purdue has lost 15 of its last 17 games. The program has lost 12 Big Ten games in a row.
• Devin Mockobee is now No. 4 on Purdue’s all-time rushing chart with 2,868 yards, moving past Scott Dierking last week by running 21 times for 98 yards at Minnesota. Mockobee trails Mike Alstott (3,635), Kory Sheets (3,341) and Otis Armstrong (3,315).

• Purdue has seen its penalties increase each of the last five games, from 2 vs. Southern Illinois, to 5 vs. USC, 7 vs. Notre Dame, 8 vs. Illinois and 9 vs. Minnesota.
• This game will be played at Northwestern Medicine Field at Martin Stadium, a temporary venue for the Wildcats the last two seasons as a new stadium is being built and set to open in 2026 at the site of the old Ryan Field. The temporary facility is perched on Northwestern’s campus on Lake Michigan next to NU’s practice facility. Capacity: 12-15,000.
• Purdue played the final game ever at Ryan Field on Nov. 18, 2023, falling 23-15. With Hudson Card out with injury, Bennett Meredith started and alternated with Browne. Meredith completed 5-of-7 passes for 36 yards with four carries for seven yards; Browne was 12-of-16 passing for 104 yards with two INTs, rushing 21 times for 85 yards.
