NASSAU, The Bahamas — No. 1 Purdue looks for another Thanksgiving Season trophy Friday night when it meets Texas Tech in the title game at the Baha Mar Championship.

A FEW THINGS ABOUT PURDUE

• Purdue has won its past four MTE appearances, riding a 10-game winning streak. Senior Braden Smith and Fletcher Loyer have never lost a multi-team event game, nor has classmate Trey Kaufman-Renn seen one, as he was redshirting for the 2022 team that beat North Carolina and Villanova to win the Hall of Fame Tip-Off in Connecticut.

• Purdue weathered a slugfest with Memphis Thursday night before winning 80-71.

ABOUT TEXAS TECH

• J.T. Toppin is one of the best players in the country, as the 6-foot-9, 230-pound senior power forward averages 23.5 points and 11 rebounds. He may be the best opposing player Purdue sees all year.

• Guard Christian Anderson is breaking out as a sophomore. He averages just under 19 a game and nearly 10 assists.

THREE KEYS FOR PURDUE

CONTAINING TOPPINTREY KAUFMAN-RENNPOISE
Among other things, Purdue has to keep him off the offensive glass. Keeping him away from the rim without fouling won’t be easy.Toppin has to guard Kaufman-Renn, too, and this is a great showcase opportunity for Purdue’s star, who was maddened by foul trouble vs. Memphis.Purdue showed signs of losing its cool vs. Memphis. It took bad shots, let the refs get under their skin and took the Tigers’ bait. Tech will really push them again.

THREE THOUGHTS

• Braden Smith seems due to make a bunch of jumpers.
• Can Purdue get putbacks and transition bunnies to circumvent what will be a pretty Memphis-like defense physically?
• Is that floor going to be playable and is that one rim 10 feet?

Both these teams were pushed hard Thursday. Purdue’s depth might have to show up again and with three of the best players in the sport in this game, the team with two of the three has an edge. But, rebounding might decide the game.
