Top prospects recap visits to West Lafayette for season opener:
GoldandBlack.com spoke with a handful of the top prospects on campus this Saturday, all of which had glowing reviews of their respective trips to West Lafayette. We will have more on several prospects throughout the next week.
2027 four-star Montini Catholic (Ill.) quarterback Israel Abrams:
“I kind of saw like a glimpse of me. I saw like offense like what I was running last year for Montini,” Abrams said. “They put a lot in the quarterback and the quarterback was making reads last night. RPO game, they started the game off with the RPO touchdown on a backside post… Decision making. I feel like that’s why I could come and fit in good for program like that.”
“Purdue definitely is up there, definitely impressed us yesterday.”
2027 three-star Simeon (Ill.) EDGE Brian Demoss:
“The visit was great, love the atmosphere. Great conversation with Coach Trump, he really inspired me. We talked about my game Friday night as well as future games. I love his interaction with the players before the game, during the warm-up. It showed on defense as they won the game. A great visit and game.”
2027 three-star Warren Central (Ind.) running back Keyon Thomas:
“To be honest, they set the bar kind of high. If I was to commit today, I’d definitely think about going to Purdue. They pretty much stood out since day one, since the offer. The other schools, I mean, they talk here and there, but like none of them really gave me the same energy that Purdue has been giving me.”
2028 Oak Creek (Wisc.) quarterback JJ Chapman:
“Honestly, to me, it was more of a culture change than anything. The energy was a lot different. The vibes were better and higher. The coaching staff, obviously, is different, and I think the way that they showed that in the game spoke to itself.”
2028 Frank W. Cox (Va.) wide receiver Grady Swango:
“It was amazing. The coaching staff is awesome. I appreciate Coach Odom and Coach Brad Odom and Coach Henson and Coach Ford. It’s my second visit, I was offered on my first visit and now coming to a game, it was electric. It was great seeing Captain Tony Grimes, who I know well from here in Virginia Beach. My family are all from Indiana so it’s like home away from home. I’m extremely blessed to experience the love from the Purdue Football family! I love everything about Purdue!
2028 Zionsville (Ind.) tight end Theo Schott:
“It went great, the game was awesome and it was fun meeting some of the players and coaches after the game.”
New offer coming out of Saturday:
Only one prospect out of the 70+ on campus walked out of West Lafayette with a new offer in hand on Saturday afternoon, 2027 three-star wide receiver Anthony Henderson. The Virginia native was among the top prospects on campus this weekend and now becomes a key target for Cornell Ford and the Boilermakers in the class.
The 6-foot pass catcher has garnered offers from Penn State, Syracuse, Duke, Maryland, Virginia Tech, Indiana, Wake Forest and now Purdue during his recruitment, as one of the top receivers in Virginia.
Henderson has 54 catches for 1,045 yards and 14 receiving touchdowns as a sophomore in 2024 and racked up nearly 500 yards as a return man, as well. The Virginia native is a walking explosive play, who can score from anywhere on the field. On tape, he showcased the ability to be a vertical threat, while also possessing plus athleticism when getting the ball in space.
2027 running back target reschedules trip:
One of the top expected visitors from Saturday, 2027 Bolingbrook (Ill.) running back TJ Lewis was unable to make it to campus for the Boilermakers’ season opener. Purdue offered the Chicago area tailback in June, joining Indiana, Wisconsin, Miami (OH) and Howard, and Lamar Conard has him high on the recruiting board in the 2027 class.
Lewis tells GoldandBlack.com that he has rescheduled the trip to West Lafayette for October 25th, which is Purdue’s clash with Rutgers on homecoming.
2027 quarterback ready for week two visit:
After hosting Israel Abrams this weekend, another 2027 quarterback target is set to make the trek to West Lafayette in week two. John Hershey (Ill.) signal caller Jake Nawrot confirmed with GoldandBlack.com that he will be on campus for Purdue’s matchup with Southern Illinois next Saturday.
Nawrot earned an offer from the Boilermakers over the summer and holds other offers from Toledo and Miami (OH), but has garnered interest from Iowa, Kansas, Northwestern and others.
