Purdue football saw its 2026 commitments in action this week and hosted a loaded group of visitors in Ross-Ade Stadium for its clash with USC on Saturday. GoldandBlack.com breaks down that and more in your weekly Purdue football recruiting recap.

Purdue football commits in action:

Corin Berry: Charter Oak (Calif.)

Charter Oak dropped its first game of the season on Friday, falling to Corona del Mar 28-21. Purdue quarterback commit Corin Berry had 120 yards through the air on 10-17 passing with a touchdown and an interception, but added 71 yards on the ground via 13 carries.

Dana Greenhow: Sandy Creek (Ga.)

In Sandy Creek’s 42-7 win over Upson-Lee on Friday, Purdue defensive back commit Dana Greenhow tallied eight total tackles (two solo) and 0.5 tackle for loss. The tackle total was Greenhow’s best on the season.

Katrell Webb: Collins Hill (Ga.) did not play.

Kobe Cherry: Center Grove (Ind.)

Cherry may have had the best game of his high school career on Friday in Center Grove’s 63-35 domination of Ben Davis, racking up 12 total tackles, including a tackle for loss and a sack.

Kymistrii Young: Cardinal Mooney (Fla.)

Young did not record a catch in Cardinal Mooney’s 49-10 win over Berkeley Prep.

Jamarcus Whyce: Trotwood-Madison (Ohio)

GoldandBlack.com was unable to obtain official stats from Jamarcus Whyce’s week four game, where Trotwood-Madison defeated Archbishop Alter 20-6.

East St. Louis fell to 0-2 on the season, with a 35-10 loss to Bishop Gorman (NV.) on Friday night in Las Vegas. Berryhill did not record any stats.

Perhaps the top performer of the week for the Boilermaker commits, running back Izaiah Wright accounted for 241 yards and three scores on the ground for Carlson, who knocked off Notre Dame prep 42-21 on Friday.

Brayden Sweeney: Catholic Central (Mich.)

Sweeney tallied six total tackles, including two solo stops and a pass deflection in Catholic Central’s 28-14 win over Lumen Christi Catholic on Friday night.

Dream Rashad and Seven Rashad: Buford (Ga.)

In Buford’s 34-26 win over Douglas County on Friday, Dream Rashad hauled in four catches for 22 yards, while Seven Rashad did not record a catch in the victory.

Flip watch for 2026 commit:

Despite his commitment to Purdue in the spring, 2026 three-star tight end ArMari Towns has been sniffing around at other opportunities and been vocal in doing so. The Southside Selma (Ala.) product took a game day visit to Auburn over the weekend after the Tigers extended an official offer back in August.

Towns may or may not be a take at Auburn, that remains to be seen. If he is, a flip could be a matter of when, not if. Troy is another program to watch for the Alabama native, who has expressed a desire to stay closer to home for his collegiate career. At this point, I would be surprised if Towns is among the names Purdue signs in December.

Pair of 2026 recruit committed elsewhere on campus:

Two four-star prospects committed to other programs took in the action on Saturday, Ole Miss athlete commit Jett Goldsberry and USC defensive line commit Braeden Jones. While intriguing, I wouldn’t get my hopes up for a flip on either blue-chipper anytime soon. Jones’ appearance in West Lafayette came as his future team was in town and this was an easy opportunity to see them. Goldsberry was on campus as his father, Jon, was recognized as a part of the 25th anniversary of the Boilermakers’ Rose Bowl team.

Goldsberry would be the more likely of the two, but the Heritage Hills standout appears to still be locked in with the Rebels. Still, that hasn’t deterred the Boilermakers from trying to flip the Purdue legacy recruit and could still look to do so in the months leading up to National Signing Day.

2027 quarterback Jake Nawrot recaps Purdue visit:

As the race to secure a 2027 quarterback continues for Purdue football, an intriguing option out of Illinois has presented himself. Prospect Heights (Ill.) Josh Hersey passer Jake Nawrot earned an offer from the Boilermakers over the summer with a stellar camp performance and could play his way into being a top target in the class, coming on the heels of his visit to West Lafayette on Saturday night.

Nawrot earned that offer despite never having attempted a pass at the varsity level, as he sat behind former three-star recruit and UCLA commit Colton Gumino for two seasons. Now, the Illinois product is looking to become a late riser in the 2027 class.

Purdue and quarterbacks coach Darin Hinshaw saw the potential that is now being matched with production. Through two games, Nawrot is completing 74% of his passes for 666 yards and four scores for John Hersey. The coaching staff in West Lafayette has been pleased with the progress and is looking for a continuation of that hot start through the rest of the fall from Nawrot.

“[Hinshaw] and coach (Josh) Henson and coach (Neal) Posey, they were all talking to me for a bit, throughout that time, and they were saying how they’re excited to just keep watching me throughout the high school season. They said, I’ve been doing good. And they said, like, Coach Hinshaw especially was like, when we’re talking about development, he told me I’m in the right spot right now in terms of progression with myself, and my weight, and just all that stuff,” Nawrot said.

Nawrot feels that he’s made strides in the mental aspect of the game since being “the guy” at John Hersey, but that the Purdue coaching staff likes his physical traits, which make him an intriguing riser in the class.

“I would say probably just my accuracy. I’d say he thinks I have a good arm for sure. I think now he’s starting to see how I play in game, and just decision making and all that. I think it’s a combination of just me getting better as a player overall, but just a lot of the mental stuff for sure,” Nawrot said. “He’s excited for the physical features, all the strength and agility and arm and throwing power.”

Purdue leaned on Devin Mockobee in its win over Southern Illinois, with Nawrot in attendance, who liked what he saw from the Boilermakers’ passing attack.

“They took their shots for sure. And I like that they ran a lot of RPO there. And I think I could fit into the system really well. Like (Ryan) Browne was taking off too. I think eventually that could be me. I saw myself in him. So I think I fit into their system really well,” Nawrot said.

Purdue is one of three offers for Nawrot at this point in his recruitment, along with Toledo and Miami (OH). Other Big Ten programs have shown interest, however, with game day trips to Iowa and Northwestern in the works. Kansas has also shown interest. The Boilermakers are believed to have other quarterbacks higher on their board, but Nawrot is seeing his stock rise and could emerge as one of those key targets, as Purdue searches for its signal caller in the class.
