While Purdue looks to bounce back in West Lafayette, several former Boilermakers will look to make an impact on Sundays this fall. Some figure to play prominent roles, while others are scratching their way through training camp. Today, GoldandBlack.com looks at how former Purdue players fared in week five of the NFL Season.

DERRICK BARNES – DETROIT LIONS

Barnes played 58 out of 62 defensive snaps in Detroit’s 37-24 win over Cincinnati, recording eight tackles, including a sack, and a quarterback hit. He also lined up for 15 snaps on special teams. The Lions head to Kansas City to square off with Barnes’ former teammate, George Karlaftis, and the Chiefs on Sunday Night Football.

DAVID BELL – CLEVELAND BROWNS

Bell began the season on the “reserve/non-football injury” list. His timetable for a return remains unknown.

PAYNE DURHAM – TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS

Durham played 18 snaps on offense and 18 on special teams in Tampa Bay’s 38-35 win over Seattle, recording a tackle. His offensive usage remains largely blocking-based. The Buccaneers host the 49ers on Sunday at 4:25 p.m. EDT.

CHARLIE JONES – CINCINNATI BENGALS

Jones saw the field as a kick and punt returner in the Bengals’ 37-24 loss to Detroit. He returned six kicks for 154 yards and a punt for six. Cincinnati will head to Green Bay for a 4:25 p.m. EDT kickoff on Sunday.

SANOUSSI KANE – BALTIMORE RAVENS

Kane played 26 snaps on special teams in Baltimore’s 44-10 loss to Houston on Sunday, though he did not record any stats. The Ravens host the Rams at 1 p.m. EDT on Sunday.

GEORGE KARLAFTIS – KANSAS CITY CHIEFS

In 44 snaps, Karlaftis recorded two tackles, including a half-sack, recorded two quarterback hits, and recovered a fumble as the Chiefs fell to Jacksonville 31-28 on Monday Night Football. Kansas City remains in the primetime view this week as it hosts Detroit on Sunday Night Football.

MARCUS MBOW – NEW YORK GIANTS

Mbow did not see the field in New York’s 26-14 loss at New Orleans. It’s the second straight week where the rookie tackle was active but did not record a snap. The Giants will turn around quickly to host the Eagles on Thursday Night Football.

RAHEEM MOSTERT – LAS VEGAS RAIDERS

Mostert took 32 of the Raiders’ 68 snaps at running back, carrying seven times for 22 yards, as the Raiders lost 40-6 at Indianapolis. He also returned a kickoff for 23 yards. Las Vegas hosts Tennessee in a battle of 1-4 teams at 4:05 p.m. EDT.

AIDAN O’CONNELL – LAS VEGAS RAIDERS

O’Connell suffered a fractured right wrist in the Raiders’ final preseason game, forcing him to miss the start of the season. He is eligible to return from injured reserve, but the timetable remains unknown.

TYRONE TRACY JR. – NEW YORK GIANTS

Tracy missed the Giants’ 26-14 loss at New Orleans with a dislocated shoulder, but he did not get placed on injured reserve, which would require him to miss at least four games. He was limited in Monday’s practice ahead of Thursday night’s showdown with the Eagles.

CORY TRICE JR. – PITTSBURGH STEELERS

Trice began the season on the “reserve/injured/designated for return” list. He is eligible to return from injured reserve, but he remains there as Pittsburgh prepares to host Cleveland at 1 p.m. EDT on Sunday.
