2027 Farmington (Mich.) edge rusher Myles Smith was one of four new offers dished out by the Purdue coaching staff after last weekend’s visitors list filled with key targets and intriguing prospects.

That offer intrigued the rising junior defensive end, who sees a new potential landing spot in West Lafayette. The aspect of the trip that stood out most to Smith was his conversations with defensive ends coach Jake Trump and Barry Odom.

“[Trump] told me where I would be a good fit for. How they think I can help contribute to the team. And then with Coach Odom, he said he liked my film, liked the way I play, and we had just a really personable conversation,” Smith said.

Smith has burst onto the scene as a pass rusher with the tools college coaches marvel over, with a 6 feet, 5 inch frame and currently sitting at 215 pounds. On film, he consistently finds ways to get into the backfield in the pass and run games, while being explosive with his athleticism.

That is some of what Jake Trump saw in Smith, leading to the offer.

“They say I could be a good pass rusher, like, it’s kind of what they need. And I feel like I can help with that, because that’s my strong suit. If they still need help against the run, I can help in that too,” Smith said.

“I think I get off the ball fast. You know, I’m very twitchy. I can read the o-line and the tackle. So, I just go off of what they do. I think I need to work on my speed to power. But I feel like, for at my level right now, it’s a little advanced, but it can be improved on,” Smith said.

Along with the on-field fit, Smith appreciates the staff’s willingness to be open and honest with players and feels it when he talks with them.

“I think I could be a good fit for the school. The coaches are very nice,” Smith said. “It’s kind of what I like, you know, just straight to the point tell me what, what they need, what they expect from me and stuff like that.”

Smith will be at Michigan this weekend, where he will get the chance to see Purdue once again against the Wolverines, and is still debating trips to Ole Miss, Oklahoma, and Missouri. The Michigan product also holds offers from Indiana, Iowa State, West Virginia, Kansas, and Cincinnati.
