Purdue lands commitment from Auburn portal TE

Purdue added a tight end from the portal on Friday: Auburn’s Rico Walker.
He has two years of eligibility, is Purdue’s 27th portal commitment this spring and first tight end. Walker is the second Auburn player Purdue has added this spring, joining OL Bradyn Joiner.
He spent one year with the Tigers after transferring from Maryland ahead of the 2024 season. Walker is Purdue’s lone portal tight end commit in the April window. The staff brought in three portal tight ends in December/January: Christian Earls and Christian Moore of UNLV and Luca Puccinelli of Wake Forest.

Walker played in five games in 2024 with the Tigers but did not catch a pass. In eight games with the Terrapins in 2023, he recorded four catches for 27 yards.
The 6-3 Walker played high school football at Hickory (N.C.), where he was a three-star recruit. He ranked as the No. 419 overall player and No. 18 tight end in the 2024 cycle according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
