Purdue moves Indiana State game from Sept. 7 to Aug. 31

Purdue had been trying for weeks to move its Sept. 7 season opener vs. Indiana State to Aug. 31. Today, that move became official, avoiding an unwanted bye to begin the 2024 campaign.
Instead of opening the 2024 season with a bye in Week One on Aug. 31, Purdue will play host to Indiana State on that day instead of opening the year on Sept. 7.

Purdue will pay Indiana State $500,000 for the 2024 game, per terms of a contract signed October 2017 and obtained by GoldandBlack.com. The contract also includes terms for a 2026 meeting in West Lafayette, in which Purdue will pay ISU $525,000.
The change means the Boilermakers will now have a bye Sept. 7 in addition to Oct. 26.
Indiana State originally was slated to open the 2024 season Aug. 31 at Eastern Illinois. Now, the Sycamores will travel to EIU the next week on Sept. 7 to accommodate the game at Purdue on Aug. 31.
The rest of Purdue’s 2024 schedule remains unchanged.
