Ahead of a season of monumental expectation, Purdue has come in at No. 1 in the preseason AP Top 25 poll.

It’s the fourth time in five years Purdue has reached No. 1, the first four such moments in school history.

After winning 24 games last season with a team held back by personnel limitations, Purdue has been picked in numerous preseason polls to be No. 1 nationally, after returning senior stars Braden Smith, Trey Kaufman-Renn and Fletcher Loyer, bolstering its center position with the addition of transfer Oscar Cluff and return of sophomore Daniel Jacobsen from injury, and signing international blue-chip guard Omer Mayer.

The Boilermakers were tabbed as the preseason favorite in the Big Ten in this year’s preseason media poll.

Purdue enters this season having been ranked in the AP poll 59 consecutive weeks, the third-longest streak in America, every week since mid-November of 2022. It will break a school record of 64 consecutive weeks ranked if it can remain in the poll through six weeks. The prior record was set between the first poll of ’07 and final poll of 2011.
