Purdue surges past Illinois to claim outright Big Ten title
CHAMPAIGN, ILL. — By virtue of maybe its best win of the year, Purdue is outright BIg Ten champs.
The No. 3 Boilermakers won Tuesday night on the road, 77-71, against an outstanding 12th-ranked Illinois team, on its Senior Night. Purdue ended Illinois’ chances to share the title, wining the conference outright for the second year in a row.
A late 7-0 Fletcher Loyer run followed by enormous threes from Lance Jones and Braden Smith capped the win on a night Zach Edey went for 28 points. Loyer scored 16 points, Smith 13 with six assists and Gillis 10 points.

Purdue made eight of 10 three-point attempts in the second half, including all four in the final seven minutes.
Purdue trailed by as many as seven early after Illinois feasted on the offensive glass in the first few minutes of the game.
