Purdue to hire Illinois RB coach Cory Patterson
GoldandBlack.com has learned that new Purdue coach Ryan Walters is set to add a second offensive assistant: Cory Patterson. He just finished his fifth year as an assistant coach at Illinois in 2022. It’s not known what position Patterson will coach at Purdue.
When Illinois coach Bret Bielema was hired in 2021, he retained Patterson, changing his role to running backs coach after Patterson had spent his first three seasons with the Illini as tight ends coach.

Patterson came to Illinois after three seasons as head coach at Trinity Catholic High School in St. Louis, building the small school into a power.
Patterson is the fifth hire for Walters, joining offensive coordinator Graham Harrell (West Virginia offensive coordinator), defensive coordinator Kevin Kane (Illinois associate head coach/OLB coach), outside linebackers coach Joe Dineen (Illinois GA) and secondary coach Grant O’Brien (Illinois defensive analyst).
