QB Hudson Card voted one of five Purdue 2023 football captains

Purdue has its five captains for the 2023 football season: Quarterback Hudson Card, safety Sanoussi Kane, receiver T.J. Sheffield, outside linebacker Nic Scourton and center Gus Hartwig.

Ryan Walters made the announcement after practice today. The players were selected by a vote of their peers to lead the Boilermakers during Walters’ maiden season as Purdue coach.
According to Walters, Card received the most votes among the players, despite not arriving on campus until January after transferring from Texas. Card spent his first three seasons playing for the Longhorns.

Hartwig also has impressed teammates even though the true senior has spent all of 2023 recovering from a knee injury suffered last November and may not be ready to play until late-September or early October.
Scourton is the youngest captain, earning the honor as a true sophomore. Kane is a vocal leader in the back end of the defense, while Sheffield–a fifth-year senior–is the most veteran of the captains.
