The American Athletic Conference named SMU point guard Kendric Davis its Player of the Year, the league announced on Wednesday. Kendric Davis was the only unanimous All-AAC First-Team honoree.

“It feels great,” Davis said Wednesday. “Last year, I feel like I should’ve won it. We didn’t play enough games I think. It just feels like it belongs. Showing it this year just shows the work. Without him (Tim Jankovich), I wouldn’t be player of the year.”

Kendric Davis is averaging 19.5 points (1st AAC), 3.8 rebounds, 1.5 steals (15th AAC), 4.6 assists (3rd AAC) with a 1.7 assist/turnover ratio (9th AAC) and hitting 45.2% on FGs (3rd AAC), 85.9% on FTs (3rd AAC) and 37.3% 3FGs with 2.4 3FGs per game (7th AAC).

Forward Marcus Weathers landed a Second Team All-AAC nod as well. Weathers transferred to SMU in the offseason after stops at Duquesne and Miami (Ohio).

Weathers has an AAC-best seven double-doubles this season. The Roeland Park, Kansas native is averaging 12.5 points (16th AAC), 7.5 rebounds (2nd AAC) and 0.7 blocks while hitting 51.2% from the field, 71.6% on free throws (13th AAC) and is 21-of-55 on threes (38.2%). Weathers grabbed AAC Player of the Week honors twice this season. He’s also all-conference for the third straight season after earning All-A-10 honors at Duquesne in 2019-20 and 2020-21.

Davis’ Player of the Year selection is the 13th in program history. He is the 20th Mustang with multiple first-team all-conference honors, as well.
