2027 LHP Evan Dyett breaks down why he committed to South Carolina

South Carolina has had a pretty good track record of finding solid talent from the state of Florida over the years. Andrew Eyster, Ethan Petry, Steve Pearce, KJ Scobey, just to name a few good ones.
The Gamecocks continue to recruit heavily out of the Sunshine State with two commits in the Class of 2026. They have two more committed for 2027, with the latest being Evan Dyett.
A 6-foot-3, 180-pound left-handed pitcher, Dyett officially committed to South Carolina on Sept. 14. The Gamecocks’ coaching staff had been in constant communication with him throughout the summer.
“All summer, they were pretty much following us around,” Dyett told GamecockCentral. “Aug. 1, obviously, that’s when they called me. It was like right in the morning at seven in the morning. Then from there on, I mean, we just talked every single day, or every week they would call and we would talk.”
Dyett, a New Smyrna Beach, FL native, recently made the six-plus hour trip to Columbia to take his official visit. When he got here, he was quickly impressed by what he saw, especially at Founders Park.
“It was definitely a unique experience,” he said. “Just like with the college campus, and how nice the field and the facility were. All the technology and all that they have is really cool.”
For Dyett, there was something about being at South Carolina that felt different. He couldn’t exactly pinpoint what that was when he was here, but it was more of a feeling that he got.

“Definitely the environment,” Dyett said, further describing his visit. “I don’t know, it’s just a feeling that I never had in Florida that South Carolina had when I was there.”
While in town, he also had the chance to officially meet Gamecocks head coach Paul Mainieri.
“He’s super cool,” Dyett said. “He has a lot of experience with baseball, so we had a lot of baseball talk. He definitely knows what he’s doing. That’s for sure.”
Dyett, who pitches at Spruce Creek High School in Florida, is a four-pitch pitcher. He throws a fastball, changeup, slider and sinker. He said he’s recently gotten his velocity up to 91 miles per hour and usually hovers around 89-91 on his fastball.
While Dyett still has some time before he arrives on campus, he already knows what he wants to try to accomplish at South Carolina.
“For me, to come in and change it,” he said. “Be the guy that they need.”
