On how Auburn experienced success against South Carolina’s interior offense
“Just playing the way we practice every day. We try to pressure the ball. Our help side wasn’t the best today, and they found people in the help side. But I thought our pressure, we just try to get people to… And they’re really good. I take nothing away from South Carolina, but we just play a little different, I think. Our kids, they play hard, and we play a different style of defense, so they kind of give you a different look.”
On A’ja Wilson visiting Auburn’s locker room before the game
“It means a lot. It just shows who she is. I shared with her, I was at Mississippi State coaching Teaira McCowan. I was a post coach, so she made me so much better having to coach against her, having to figure out how to get Teaira prepared every night to go against her.
“But I’m just really, really proud. She’s not only made South Carolina proud, she’s made women’s basketball proud. She’s made coaches that coach against her proud, and I’m just really happy for her.”

On how South Carolina broke open the game late in second quarter
“Basically, it was depth. We had a couple of players that got in foul trouble. I had to sub, and it was just our depth. I think they just took over. They got some run-outs. Again, it was our turnovers, it was their transition baskets that really was the biggest difference in the ball game.”
On DeYona Gaston’s performance against South Carolina
“She was out a couple of days of practice. She went down in the last basketball game, so I wasn’t exactly sure what we were going to get after her. But the thing I can say about DeYona (Gaston) is, when she steps on the court, she’s going to give you everything you have. This was a big stage, and one of the things I told our players is that, ‘This is a big stage, and you have to embrace it.’ And I really felt like DeYona embraced it, and she gave me everything she had tonight.”
