Former Gamecock star Stephon Gilmore among South Carolina student-athletes to graduate this week
Former Gamecocks superstar defensive back and Wildcat quarterback Stephon Gilmore is one of the 31 current and former University of South Carolina student-athletes receiving their degrees this week.
Current South Carolina football players Oscar Adaway III, Ryan Brubaker, Bradley Dunn, Nathan Harris-Waynick, Brady Hunt, William Joyce, Jalon Kilgore, Buddy Mack III, Shawn Murphy, Rodney Newsom Jr., Myles Norwood, DQ Smith, Bryan Thomas Jr., Mac Walters, Peyton Williams, and George Wilson Jr. are graduating Monday as USC Columbia is expected to award 2,194 degrees, including graduate and professional degree programs.
Gilmore started from the moment the highly rated former South Pointe High School standout arrived on campus, earning Freshman All-American honors in 2009.
No. 5 followed that with AP All-American honors in 2010 when he logged three interceptions and a team-leading 79 tackles on a talented SEC East Championship-winning defense.
He picked up All-American distinctions from other outlets in 2011, as he registered another four interceptions.

Following his three years with the Gamecocks, the Buffalo Bills picked Stephon Gilmore 10th overall in the 2012 NFL Draft. He made a Pro Bowl before moving over to the New England Patriots, where he also won a Super Bowl.
Playing with the Patriots, Gilmore earned three more Pro Bowl nods and the 2019 NFL Defensive Player of the Year Award. His pass breakup in the 2017-2018 AFC Championship Game sent New England to the Super Bowl and is regarded as one of the top breakups in league history.
Gilmore played 13 years in the NFL.
