He's back! KJ Scobey set to return to South Carolina after promising freshman season

One player announcing their return for next season wasn’t enough. Now there will be two in one day.
Shortly after senior catcher Talmadge LeCroy’s return for a fifth and final season, freshman third baseman KJ Scobey followed suit and posted on X (formerly known as Twitter) that he will be back at South Carolina in 2026.

“Let’s ride!! @GamecockBasebll,” Scobey said in his post.
Scobey’s return is a big one for the Gamecocks. In 56 games, the Lakeland, Fla. native hit .257 with eight homers and 27 RBI this season.
His defense at third base proved to be a massive improvement compared to what the team had over at the hot corner in 2024. While not perfect, he finished with a .951 fielding percentage and seven errors.
So far, Scobey and LeCroy are the only known returners going into head coach Paul Mainieri’s second season at South Carolina.
