Jaycee Horn sees growth in Xavier Legette's game from college days

Jaycee Horn is no stranger to going up against Xavier Legette in practice. But entering his fourth year in the NFL, Horn admits that Legette’s game has come along way since the two were teammates at South Carolina.
“He’s a different receiver than when I was going against him in college,” said Horn, in a recent Panthers press conference. “He got way more technical with his routes and just works at a different speed. I’m excited to see him this year.”

Teammates at South Carolina in 2019 and 2020, Horn and Legette are the two most recent Gamecocks to be selected in the first round of the NFL Draft. Horn was drafted with the seventh overall pick in 2021 while Legette was selected with the 32nd overall pick just last month. With OTAs (organized team activities) underway for the Panthers, the two have had a chance to lineup against each other just like they used to do in Columbia.
“I was (at South Carolina) two years with X. We had a chance to have some practice battles and he is a hell of a player. Now, we’re still going to be competing every day except I’m gonna be trying to help him a lot more and try to go hard as I can against him so when he goes out there on Sunday, it’ll be a lot easier for him.”

Following being drafted by the Panthers, Legette shared how important he believes Horn was to his development earlier in his college career.
“He’s part of the reason why I got better. We worked hard every day. It was good on good,” said Legette. “He’s very patient at the line. You can’t just do anything on Jaycee.”
