Jayden Sellers steps up in absence of fellow freshman against Oklahoma

On Saturday afternoon, South Carolina true freshman receiver Jayden Sellers had a chance to make his first real impact and did so.
Sellers is one of six scholarship freshmen wide receivers on the 2025 South Carolina roster. However, he is the only one who came out of high school not ranked as a four-star prospect according to Rivals Industry Ranking.
Despite the 26-7 loss, Sellers left Saturday with a team-high six receptions for 57 yards. His brother, starting quarterback LaNorris Sellers, said he saw no fear in his younger brother’s eyes.
“He went in there, his first SC game, first really college game, he got a lot of burn,” Sellers said. ” I told him throughout the week, stuff is going to be there, I’m gonna spread it out there to you.”
Sellers received five targets, despite his six receptions, which tied Nyck Harbor for the second most on the day. Fellow true freshman Donovan Murph led the Gamecock wideouts in targets with six.
The opportunity to get in his first career game came due to the suspension of Brian Rowe for a “violation of team standards,” according to head coach Beamer.
“Jayden got an opportunity. That’s what happens; it’s the next man up. And I thought he did a great job,” Beamer said.

The older Sellers brother also spoke with Jayden on specific routes throughout the week, with the idea that he’d play.
“Those smoke routes I told you about earlier, those were there, just a little bit more aggressive, trying to give him a ball, trying to get him hit a couple of times. He took a good one, but other than that, he was fine,” LaNorris said.
It’s in those practices that Sellers shines, and that’s another reason why he earned the nod on Saturday.
“He’s been practicing the right way. He brings some juice to the offense,” Beamer said. “He’s a competitor. Like the way that he practices. And when you practice the right way, you get opportunities on Saturdays.”
