LaNorris Sellers, Shane Beamer share thoughts about star quarterback's future

For the first time in the Shane Beamer era, South Carolina knows they won’t be going to a bowl game weeks before the season ends. Two games left to go, and the 2025 season will officially end.
Saturday’s 31-30 loss to No. 3 Texas A&M cemented the Gamecocks’ fate with seven losses as they blew a 27-point lead after halftime. In Beamer’s first four years, they’ve either made it to a bowl game or have had a chance to become bowl eligible going into the final game. That won’t be the case this year.
And with that will come the time for LaNorris Sellers to have to decide on what’s next for him in his career. He’ll have plenty of options, including returning to South Carolina for another year, declaring for the 2026 NFL Draft, or even transferring to another school.
For Sellers, his immediate focus is on finishing out the season the right way. The conversations will come in the offseason.
“When the time comes to make those decisions, it’s just going to be there,” he said. “Everybody’s got decisions to make. But I mean, I plan on being here because I’m here right now.”
There have been a lot of online rumors circulating about what the redshirt sophomore quarterback will ultimately do. One popular talking point has been the idea of Miami (FL) going after him in the transfer portal, which started when NFL Draft analyst Todd McShay discussed this as a possibility.
“There is a place in South Florida where they’ve done a really nice job of hand-picking quarterbacks the last two years,” McShay said on a Nov. 6 episode of The McShay Show. “They’ve seen ascensions in their game, and they have a lot of talent around that quarterback position, and they haven’t been able to take that next step. Miami is a program I would be very cautious of, if I’m Shane Beamer, and the Gamecocks program, of trying to come in with an offer that is very difficult to refuse.”

After losing to the Aggies, Beamer was asked about McShay’s comments and didn’t buy it at all.
“I think there’s a bunch of absolute horse garbage that’s on social media right now,” he said.
But there’s always the chance that Sellers could choose to come back for another year.
“Hopefully that’s not horse garbage,” Beamer then said.

Sellers, who’s in his third year with the Gamecocks, will have two years of eligibility remaining. Beamer, who regularly talks with Sellers every day, said he’s had “some really good conversations” with many players on the team about their future.
“I’d not be doing my job as a head coach if I wasn’t having conversations with players throughout the season in regards to their futures,” Beamer said. “We’ve got guys that have NFL decisions to make. I don’t want to speak for everyone, there’ll be a time for all that, but I’ll say this though, there’s a lot of guys on this team that love being a Gamecock, and there’s a lot of guys on this team and in this program that hurt like hell right now about what we’re going through, but there’s a lot of guys that have great grit and resolve to get this right and understand how close we are to to being where we want to be.”
Sellers completed 15-of-30 passes for 246 yards with two touchdowns and one interception against Texas A&M.
South Carolina will return to Williams-Brice Stadium for a two-game home stand to close out the regular season, starting next Saturday, Nov. 22, against Coastal Carolina. Kickoff will be at 4:15 p.m. on SEC Network.
