Latest on Myles Stute from Lamont Paris after Northwestern loss

South Carolina had a late injury scratch ahead of Sunday’s 79-77 loss to Northwestern as Myles Stute suffered a facial injury sustained in practice that resulted in a concussion.
Following the game, head coach Lamont Paris shared a brief update on the fifth-year senior and what the next steps are for him going forward.
“I don’t want to say anything that’s not accurate as it pertains to Myles,” Paris said. “I was told it was a concussion. So I know there’s concussion protocol, and they do some testing, and they’ve got a baseline that they’ve measured all these guys early, and then it’s how you’re progressing from that.”
Paris didn’t know how Stute’s initial tests came back after learning he had a concussion. However, it’s something that he said he will find out.
“I just knew he wasn’t available for the game,” Paris said. “So we started immediately trying to plan some things based on that.”
Jordan Butler made the start at forward in Stute’s absence. It was his first start since March 9, 2024, at LSU, when Butler was a freshman at Missouri. He finished with four points and six rebounds in 23 minutes.

As for Stute, it’s unclear what his timeframe will be for his return to action. It’s been a tough start to the year, coming back after missing most of last season with a blood clot in his lower left leg. He started on Friday against Butler and finished with zero points on 0-of-4 shooting from three-point range in 25 minutes.
Through five games, Stute is averaging seven points per game on 33.3 percent shooting from the field and a career-low 24.1 percent from three.
“Myles is a maniacal worker,” Paris said on Friday. “If you’ve ever been around him at all, you’ll know that. He’ll find his way through it.”
South Carolina will have a few days off from game action with Thanksgiving this week. The Gamecocks will be back at Colonial Life Arena on Friday when they take on Charleston Southern at 4 p.m. on SEC Network+.
