Live Updates: No. 11 South Carolina: 7 vs Vanderbilt: 31 (FINAL)

South Carolina kicks off SEC play at home against the Vanderbilt Commodores Saturday evening. Kickoff between the Gamecocks and Commodores is at 7:45 p.m. on the SEC Network.

South Carolina enters Saturday’s conference opener at 2-0, seeking its first 3-0 start since the 2012 season, when the Gamecocks finished 11-2. Vanderbilt also enters 2-0, coming off a win over Virginia Tech, where the Commodores outscored the Hokies 34-0 in the second half to win 44-20.

South Carolina has won the past 16 contests between the two schools, dating back to a 2008 loss in Nashville, 24-17. South Carolina’s last home loss to Vanderbilt came the year prior in 2007, 17-6.

First Quarter

South Carolina: 0 Vanderbilt: 7 [9:33]: Vanderbilt drove down the field in nine plays to break the ice on the scoreboard. Diego Pavia completed a short route in the shotgun to Sedrick Alexander for a 15-yard touchdown.

South Carolina: 7 Vanderbilt: 7 [5:58]: South Carolina’s offense started with a strong 33 yard gain on a pass from LaNorris Sellers to Jordan Dingle. The Gamecocks continued to pick their way down the field inito the endzone on a seven yard carry from Rahsul Faison.

Second Quarter

South Carolina: 7 Vanderbilt: 14 [1:56]: Commodores put together another long drive late in the opening half to break the tie before the break. Vanderbilt’s Junior Sherrell caught the touchdown scoring pass from Pavia.

South Carolina: 7 Vanderbilt: 14 [1:52]: Vanderbilt’s Langston Patterson ejected for targeting after a late hit on LaNorris Sellers that knocked Sellers out the game briefly. Sellers sits in his usual spot on the sideline as Luke Doty takes over at QB. He did not go to the injury tent or locker room.

South Carolina: 7 Vanderbilt: 14 [:20] Mason Love misses 53-yard field goal.

Third Quarter

South Carolina: 7 Vanderbilt: 21 [10:48] Jamezell Lassiter found an open lane to take it 44 yards to the endzone. It was Vandy’s first scoring drive under eight plays of the night.

South Carolina: 7 Vanderbilt: 21 [1:11] Justin Okoronkwo intercepts Diego Pavia, Carolina takes over at their own 21.

Fourth Quarter

South Carolina: 7 Vanderbilt: 24 [9:31] Brock Taylor makes a 51-yard field goal after a Vandy drive that started at midfield due to a turnover on downs from South Carolina.

South Carolina: 7 Vanderbilt: 31 [5:29] Sedrick Alexander walks into the endzone untouched to give the Commodores a 28-point lead. During the drive, Dylan Stewart was ejected from the game due to unsportsmanlike conduct.
