Luke Doty shares what he expects offense to look like in 2024

With both Spencer Rattler and Xavier Legette entering their names into the 2024 NFL Draft, to say South Carolina’s offense will look different this season is an understatement.
But different isn’t necessarily a bad thing, as fifth-year senior Luke Doty explained.
“This offense is gonna be fun to watch. We brought in a lot of playmakers this past recruiting cycle,” said Doty. “A lot of new guys, a lot of experienced guys, and a lot of guys that know how to make plays and have been doing it for a while.”

At wide receiver alone, transfers Jared Brown, Ahmari Huggins-Bruce, and Gage Larvadain bring a combined 99 collegiate games played into a Gamecock wide out room that lacks a ton of experience. In the running back room, the additions of transfers Rocket Sanders, Oscar Adaway III, and Jawarn Howell has made one of the thinnest positional groups on USC’s offense from a year ago into one of it’s strongest, and deepest heading into this season. Throw in some additions via the transfer portal on the offensive line, tight, and quarterback and you’re looking at a Gamecock team that has created more competition and depth with players who have proven backgrounds. Not to mention a handful of offensive commitments from the high school ranks.
“I think when we step on the field for the spring game on April 20th and then we kick it off in August, it’s gonna be really fun to watch. There’s going to be a lot of explosive plays, a lot of downhill runs, and just a lot of plays being made by a lot of different guys.”

Where does Doty factor into that? Listed as an ATH (athlete), Doty’s 13 receptions from last season is the most by any returning Gamecock wide out. But he’s also played more snaps as a South Carolina quarterback than anyone else currently on the roster. To sum up his role, he’s continuing to get work at multiple positions this spring.
“It’s been everything. A little bit at quarterback, a little bit at wide receiver, a little bit of special teams. Just making sure I’m getting reps in every single place that I could possibly play just so that whenever that time comes I’m ready for whatever it is. It’s been a lot of fun. It’s a lot of what I did towards the end of the season last year… I’m just making sure that I’m prepare mentally and physically so that when it happens I’ll be ready to go.”
