Four-star WR Sequel Patterson commits to South Carolina

The South Carolina Gamecocks picked up another key piece to the 2026 recruiting class on Thursday when in-state, four-star wide receiver Sequel Patterson announced his pledge.
A product of Indian Land High, Patterson had over 1,200 all-purpose yards during his junior season, also excelling as a defensive back.
The 6-foot, 170-pounder chose the Gamecocks over offers from Michigan, Tennesseee, Texas A&M, North Carolina, Kentucky, Virginia Tech, Maryland, and others.

In June, he announced his intentions to reclassify from the 2027 class to become a senior and a member of the 2026 cycle.
Patterson took his official visit to Columbia – the only official he took during the recruiting process – last weekend and came away raving about his experience learning more about Shane Beamer’s program.
“It was an overall great experience to me,” he said over the weekend. “We got down here, met with Coach Beamer, Coach Furrey, met with all the guys—Mazeo, B Rowe, Murph—and just kind of bonded with the guys throughout the weekend.”

The On3 Industry Ranking – a weighted average of all four major recruiting services – tabs Patterson as the number 228 prospect in the country for the 2026 class regardless of position. He is additionally ranked number 9 nationally in the athlete category and as the fifth-best prospect in the state of South Carolina.
Gamecocks wide receivers coach Mike Furrey played a key role in this recruitment.
“Me and coach, we have a great bond,” Patterson told GamecockCentral.com last Sunday. “Obviously, he’s an experienced guy in the league, just a guy that I can see myself learning from. He’s been through some stuff in his life, and I have too. So we kind of connect in that aspect. He’s just, like I said, a relatable guy because he’s been through what he’s showing us. He can actually drop down in the stance and show us what he’s talking about rather than just telling us because, like I said, he’s been through the fire, knows what he’s talking about, had some experience, played both sides like myself. So that’s how I connect with him.”
Patterson becomes the ninth member of the Gamecocks’ 2026 recruiting class, and the sixth player in the group ranked as a four-star prospect.
