Time is running out for South Carolina. As November begins, the Gamecocks have to win out to make a bowl game.

But it wasn’t hard for head coach Shane Beamer to find some motivation for his players. With the 2010-13 teams set to be honored this Saturday, he spoke to them about what it was like to be a part of those years.

“We were talking about the 2010 team and that November we beat Clemson up there after we had already clinched a spot to play in the SEC Championship. We went down to Gainesville and won a game against Florida where the winner was going to go to the SEC Championship. That was certainly a November to remember,” Beamer said.

Beamer was a young assistant coach in the program when it was still building itself up under then-head coach Steve Spurrier. And it all came together starting in 2010.

“The energy was high in 2010. It was awesome,” Beamer said. “Obviously, that was the first time that we had done something like that. We had brought in some great recruiting classes and then 2010 was the year starting off with beating Alabama when they were No. 1 in the country.”

During that November, the Gamecocks won three straight games, including road wins over Florida and Clemson, to make it to Atlanta for the first time since moving to the SEC.

“I remember the fans that met us back in the stadium when we got back,” Beamer said. “And then following it up at the end of the season with a win over Clemson as well. It was great excitement that continued with the recruiting classes and the seasons on the field after that as well.”

Things didn’t end well as South Carolina lost to Auburn in the SEC Championship game. Then, it lost to Florida State in the Peach Bowl. However, that team laid the ground work for what was to come.

Over the next three years, the Gamecocks went 33-6, never losing more than two games in a season. Beamer didn’t coach any of those teams. But he knew just how important they were to the overall success of the program.

““I think those teams showed what’s capable here at Carolina,” he said. “Those 2010-13 teams showed that you really can win at the highest level here at Carolina if you have the support from everyone here at this university and outside this building.”

And that’s what Beamer is hoping to see from his current team with four games left to play. South Carolina is 2-6 right now. But he believes it can turn it around and have a November to remember.

“This upcoming November can be with this team that will be remembered forever if we’re able to do what we want to do,” Beamer said. “There’s no reason why we can’t win at the highest level consistently year in year out. And those teams certainly showed that.”
