South Carolina is back in the win column for the first time in nearly two months after a 51-7 win over Coastal Carolina at Williams-Brice Stadium.

However, the Gamecocks did it without two of their best players. Neither Nyck Harbor nor Dylan Stewart suited up on Saturday, as they were both in street clothes with their jersey worn over top.

Head coach Shane Beamer explained why that was after the game.

“Nyck was not able to go tonight, not totally cleared,” he said. “He ran the other day and ran fast the other day, so we’re hopeful that he’ll be fine for next Saturday.”

Harbor suffered an injury late in last week’s 31-30 loss to Texas A&M, which put him in a College Station hospital overnight before returning to Columbia the following day. The injury occurred on an 18-yard catch on 4th and 6 to keep the Gamecocks alive in a one-point game against the Aggies. However, after making the grab, Harbor was lying on his side and not moving as the training staff came to him.

Eventually, Harbor walked back to the South Carolina sideline with the trainers and went into the medical tent. Right before the game ended, he walked back to the locker room with a trainer.

Stewart’s been a bit banged up, dating back to the beginning of the month when he appeared on the SEC availability report going into the Ole Miss game. Despite that, he still managed to play through it in road games against Ole Miss and Texas A&M.

“Dylan kind of had something that aggravated him,” Beamer said. “That was a question mark before the Ole Miss game when we had him questionable on the injury report the Friday night before the game. He practiced in a limited role this week, but just didn’t feel quite able to go. But I think he’ll be fine for Saturday.”

South Carolina will close out the season with the 122nd edition of the Palmetto Bowl against Clemson next Saturday, Nov. 29, at Williams-Brice Stadium. Kickoff is at noon on SEC Network.
