Shane Beamer shares brief injury report after Saturday's win: 'It's not good'

South Carolina picked up a 38-10 win over SC State to move to 2-0 on Saturday, but the Gamecocks will also come away with a handful of injuries.
Head coach Shane Beamer provided a brief injury report following the game, though he didn’t dive into too much detail. Before anyone could ask, he said the list of injuries would be “too long to name” in the midst of making his opening statement.
“I’ll have a better answer for you tomorrow night on the teleconference,” Beamer said. “It’s not good.”
Coming into the night, the Gamecocks were already without Judge Collier and JT Geer. Collier played just nine snaps in Week 1 before exiting with the injury and was spotted on the sidelines on crutches with his knee in a cast. Geer exited in the second half last Sunday and appeared to be holding his shoulder.
Earlier this week, Beamer mentioned during Carolina Calls that he expects both players to return in time for the SEC opener against Vanderbilt next Saturday.
Starting nickel Jalon Kilgore didn’t suit up on Saturday. After last week’s win over Virginia Tech, Beamer said that Kilgore had been dealing with a nagging hamstring injury, which limited him and forced Vicari Swain to step into punt returner duties.
Swain had two punt return touchdowns in the win, giving him three so far this season.
On top of Kilgore being down in Week 2, the Gamecocks also took a hit with their depth at the nickel spot.
“Brandon Cisse got hurt early in the game,” Beamer said. “Our third-team nickel is Jaquel Holman. He got hurt in the first quarter, so we were down to literally our fourth nickel, which kudos to Kelvin Hunter.”

Hunter, a redshirt freshman in his second year with the program, was tied for second on the defense with four tackles on Saturday.
“He came in, I thought, and did a really remarkable job,” Beamer said. Didn’t even think he was going to be playing, and then he’s in there. Then he played the rest of the game.”
Beamer referenced a few other injuries that South Carolina dealt with throughout the night. In addition to the defensive backs, he mentioned tight end Brady Hunt and left tackle Josiah Thompson as others who were banged up after the win.
Again, Beamer said he will have a better idea of the full injury report when he speaks next with the media. Beamer’s weekly teleconference will be at 5 p.m. on Sunday.
South Carolina will be back at home next Saturday, Sept. 13, as it opens SEC play against Vanderbilt. Kickoff will be at 7:45 p.m. on SEC Network from Williams-Brice Stadium.
