Shane Beamer updates Dylan Stewart injury, shares why he suspended three players

Following South Carolina’s 26-7 loss to No. 14 Oklahoma, Shane Beamer shared that he had suspended three players for “a violation of team standards,” resulting in them not playing Saturday afternoon.
Brian Rowe, who was listed as out on the SEC availability report, was one of the suspended players. The others were Anthony Addison and Davonte Miles.
“Accountability is a core value of our program,” Beamer said, “and whether you’re 3-3 or 6-0, the core values and the accountability doesn’t change.”
Rowe has had a nice freshman season so far at wide receiver, catching 10 passes for 89 yards and a touchdown. Addison, a freshman EDGE from Bishopville, has appeared in two games and made one tackle. Miles transferred to South Carolina from Bowling Green and had played in every game so far this season, up until Saturday. He’s made three tackles with 0.5 sacks.
Beamer emphasized that he decided to suspend all three of them ahead of kickoff.
“So disappointing for them, disappointing for us, selfish decisions that certainly affected our team today, because we needed them,” he said. “But they’re good kids that will learn from this, hopefully, and respond the right way. I would anticipate them being back next week. And again, that was my decision.”
On the injury front, the Gamecocks came away with a few injuries, most notably to Dylan Stewart, who exited the game twice.
Stewart went to the locker room after the first drive of the game and then returned to action, only to exit again with an injury. Beamer said it’s a hip injury.

“Thought he could go. He went back in the second time, and I guess, got hit on him again,” Beamer said. “I don’t have much of an update, other than just a hip injury.”
One other injury note that Beamer shared: Vicari Swain broke his finger in practice on Wednesday and had surgery on it later that night. He returned three punts for 55 yards, including a 31-yard return.
Beamer’s next injury update will come on Sunday when he meets with the media for his weekly teleconference at 5 p.m.
South Carolina will wrap up a two-game home stand next Saturday, Oct. 25, when it hosts No. 6 Alabama at Williams-Brice Stadium. Kickoff will be at 3:30 p.m. on ABC.
