South Carolina adds to bullpen with commitment from ACC relief pitcher

South Carolina has continued to stay active in the transfer portal while building its pitching staff for next season. On Sunday, the Gamecocks picked up their latest commitment from right-hander Josh Gunther.
Gunther spent the last two seasons at Wake Forest, where he went 1-6 with a 4.92 ERA in 54 career appearances. He had a 6.32 ERA as a freshman in 2024 but saw much stronger results this season with the Demon Deacons.
Gunther finished the year with a 3.41 ERA in 29 innings of work. He struck out 47 batters and walked 18 as opponents hit .194 against him. He led Wake Forest with six saves on the mound.

With the addition of Gunther, the Gamecocks have now landed five pitchers in this transfer portal cycle. Gunther is the second reliever added by the team, joining Louisiana-Monroe transfer right-hander Josh Gregoire.
South Carolina has also added Purdue first baseman Logan Sutter, Samford two-way player Cullen Horowicz, USC Upstate right-hander Amp Phillips and Sacred Heart right-hander Elijah Foster.
