South Carolina baseball alum involved in MLB trade

South Carolina baseball alum Jonah Bride has been traded.
On Wednesday, the Minnesota Twins announced that they had acquired Bride in a trade with the Miami Marlins. In return, the Twins will give the Marlins cash considerations at a future date. Earlier this week, Miami designated Bride for assignment, and Minnesota took advantage of his newfound availability.
The utility infielder wasn’t having his best season in 2025. However, his 2024 was solid, making him an intriguing bounce-back candidate in the Twins organization. Last year, he hit for a .276/.357/.461/.818 slash line with 21 extra-base hits in 232 at-bats. He also logged a positive WAR (wins above replacement) despite not starting for a good chunk of the year. Bride played first, third, and second for the Fish.
Now with the Twins, Jonah Bride will provide multi-positional infield depth for a team looking to compete in a very-winnable AL Central division.

Before joining the Miami Marlins organization via trade ahead of the 2024 season, Bride spent parts of six seasons with the Oakland Athletics, including two years as a part-time Big Leaguer.
During his South Carolina baseball career, Bride was a three-year starter at third base. He provided dependable defense, a solid approach at the plate, and a knack for racking up HBPs. In a bit of statistical oddity, he hit exactly 12 doubles in all three years in garnet and black. Bride’s efforts in Columbia earned him selection in the 23rd round of the 2018 MLB Draft.
