South Carolina basketball star Collin Murray-Boyles ranked as top NBA Draft power forward

South Carolina basketball star Collin Murray-Boyles is the highest-regarded Gamecock NBA Draft prospect for some time. The Columbia native is all but guaranteed to be a first-rounder at the end of this month. That is something that has happened for a USC product since 2006 when the New York Knicks selected Renaldo Balkman. On Friday, On3’s James Fletcher again projected CMB as a first-rounder, also ranking the two-way player as the top power forward in this year’s draft.
Said Fletcher, “Collin Murray-Boyles has drawn some big comparisons throughout the draft process and is among the most interesting players to project and predict his value. He immediately enters the league as a versatile and disruptive defender capable of guarding many positions at a high level. The concern is his offensive package, which leaves much to be desired unless he develops a perimeter jumpshot.”

Murray-Boyles’ versatility and defensive instincts are special. If the Gamecock sophomore can add to his offensive game (most notably, a consistent jumper), he has NBA All-Star potential.
During his second year with South Carolina basketball, Murray-Boyles averaged 16.8 points, 8.3 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 1.5 steals, and 1.3 blocks. He was also the SEC’s leader in field goal percentage (58%) among qualified players. No other player in college basketball averaged at least 16 points, eight rebounds, two assists, one steal, and one block while shooting 55% from the field.
The NBA Draft will take place on Wednesday, June 25th and Thursday, June 26th at Barclays Arena in New York. The first round will take place on Wednesday, while the second will be on Thursday. ABC and ESPN will broadcast the first round, but the second round will only show on ESPN. Both rounds also will stream on the ESPN app.
