South Carolina basketball star Collin Murray-Boyles will be an early pick in this month’s NBA Draft. The Columbia native spent two years with the Gamecocks but will forego his final two years of eligibility to get an early jump on his professional career. According to most NBA Draft mocks, he will be a first-round pick and could go in the lottery.

Backing up those projections, Murray-Boyles picked up a telling honor on Monday evening. ESPN’s Jonathan Givony reported that the NBA has invited Collin Murray-Boyles to the green room for the NBA Draft broadcast. As of Givony’s report, 19 total players had received the invite. For context, invitees are expected to be first-round picks and will be on hand for the television broadcast.

If Murray-Boyles goes in the first round (as expected), he will be South Carolina basketball’s first player selected that high since Renaldo Balkman. The New York Knicks drafted Balkman 20th overall in the 2006 NBA Draft.

Murray-Boyles has earned a lot of lottery predictions this spring and summer. Most of those have the versatile forward coming off the board between picks eight and fourteen.

It is easy to see why the Association likes Murray-Boyles as a prospect. He has elite defensive potential and versatility. He’s also got above-average instincts as a passer and scorer near the basket. If he can develop a more consistent jumper, he has NBA All-Star upside.

This year’s NBA Draft will take place on Wednesday, June 25th and Thursday, June 26th. ABC and ESPN will broadcast the first round on the 25th, starting at 8:00 p.m. If he accepts his invitation, Collin Murray-Boyles will be in attendance for the first round. Then, on Thursday, ESPN will broadcast the second round at 8:00 p.m. Both the first and second rounds will stream on ESPN+ and the ESPN app.
