South Carolina basketball teams announce SEC Media Days participants

Next week, Birmingham, Alabama will host the SEC Media Days’ Basketball Tipoff. For the preseason festivities, South Carolina basketball coach Lamont Paris and South Carolina women’s basketball coach Dawn Staley will each take three team representatives with them.
On Monday, USC announced that senior guards Meechie Johnson and Mike Sharavjamts and senior wing Myles Stute would travel with Paris. The school also revealed that senior guard Ta’Niya Latson, senior forward Chloe Kitts, and sophomore forward Joyce Edwards will be with Staley.
On the men’s side, Paris and company are expected to be predicted as the preseason last-place team in the SEC. The players and coaches are not hiding from that reality but expressed optimism this week that the offseason disrespect will put chips on the shoulders of everyone in the program, leading to an outperforming of expectations. Johnson went with Paris to the 2023-2024 SEC Media Days event, his most recent year with the team.
For the women, the opposite prediction is expected. The Gamecocks are most outlets’ preseason National Championship favorites. As such, South Carolina will likely be an overwhelming preseason conference favorite. USC has won nine of the last 12 regular-season SEC Championships and nine of 11 SEC Tournaments.
An added bit of intrigue could follow Coach Staley’s team. Kitts was wearing a bulky brace on her knee this week. She and her head coach will undoubtedly have to answer questions about her apparent injury.
