South Carolina basketball checks in with nation's leading 3-point shooter in transfer portal
South Carolina basketball coach Lamont Paris will have a new-look team for the 2025-2026 season. So far, the Gamecocks have had eight players enter the transfer portal and two others graduate. Because of that, the USC headman is working to bring in a large class of transfers, and he has the flexibility to add talent at any position on the floor.
According to a report from The Portal Scoop, former Chattanooga guard Honor Huff has heard from over 20 programs, including South Carolina, since entering the portal on Saturday.
Though he spent three years at Chattanooga, Huff was not recruited by Paris, who coached the Mocs before accepting the head coaching job in Columbia.
Huff led the nation in 3-point field goals this season, making 131 of them on 41.6% efficiency in 38 games. He scored at least 10 points in 29 contests. Huff averaged 15.2 points, 2.3 assists, 1.8 rebounds, and 0.9 steals per game for Chattanooga. He also led the Mocs to an NIT championship.

Huff is just 5-10 and 168 pounds. Even as a combo guard, that is small. However, with his ability to make outside shots (he’s a career 39.5% shooter from the perimeter), he could carve out an important role in a larger conference.
South Carolina currently has four open scholarships, and just five players on the roster can play on the perimeter. Of those five, only incoming freshman Eli Ellis, the returning prodigal Meechie Johnson, and transfer portal additions Treysen Eaglestaff and Kobe Knox can provide ballhandling at either one of the two guard spots. That means there is room on the Gamecocks’ roster for another guard or two.
