South Carolina basketball transfer Morris Ugusuk has found a new home after about a month in the transfer portal. He announced on Sunday a commitment to West Virginia and new head coach Ross Hodge. Ugusuk will join former USC transfer portal signee Treysen Eaglestaff in Morgantown. Eaglestaff requested out of his commitment to the Gamecocks in April.

Ugusuk, a 6-4 combo guard with major defensive potential and a nice outside jump shot, will still have two years of eligibility remaining with the Mountaineers.

During his time in Columbia, Ugusuk didn’t quite live up to his capabilities on the defensive end of the floor, mainly due to his lack of strength. He also didn’t offer much offensively other than a 40% 3-point efficiency as a sophomore. However, if he continues getting stronger and puts it all together for WVU, Ugusuk could turn into a good player.

While wearing garnet and black, Ugusuk averaged 4.1 points and one rebound per game. He also shot 37% from the field, 37.4% from the 3-point arc, and 77.1% from the free throw line.

Ugusuk joins Austin Herro (St. Thomas), Nick Pringle (Arkansas), Zach Davis (Memphis), and Arden Conyers (Charlotte 49ers) as former Gamecocks finding new homes via the transfer portal this offseason. Cam Scott withdrew from the portal to return to the Gamecocks. Jamarii Thomas (who should be out of eligibility) and Okku Federiko (who never played at USC) haven’t found landing spots.

South Carolina has landed six transfer portal commitments, as well. Nordin Kapic (UC-San Diego), Mike Sharavjamts (Utah), Kobe Knox (USC), Elijah Strong (Boston College), Meechie Johnson (Ohio State), and Christ Essandoko (Providence) will join the Gamecocks this summer.
