South Carolina defeats Presbyterian in run-rule fashion

Despite Presbyterian getting on the board first, South Carolina took the victory 11-1 in seven innings after a late-inning momentum surge.
With the win, the Gamecocks (18-12, 1-8 SEC) have snapped their seven-game losing streak.
An RBI single in the third by Amman Dewberry got Presbyterian an early one-run lead over South Carolina. But this would be the Blue Hose’s only run in the matchup.
Ethan Petry opened the door for South Carolina and crushed a 380-foot two-run bomb to give the Gamecocks the lead the rest of the way. Petry was intentionally walked twice throughout the matchup.
Freshman Gavin Braland gave the Gamecocks some insurance in the bottom of the sixth with a two-run RBI single. Nathan Hall added to that cushion with a two-run RBI single of his own to break the game open.
In his second start of the season, Cayden Gaskin went 0-for-4 at the plate with one walk and one run scored.

With bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh, Jase Woita hit a pop-up that was dropped by Presbyterian’s third baseman to extend South Carolina’s lead to eight runs.

Starting on the bump, Tyler Pitzer went two innings, giving up just two hits with no runs scored. After just one strikeout, he was replaced.
Jackson Soucie’s time on the mound was short-lived but efficient. In one inning pitched, Soucie through back-to-back strikeouts to end the inning while giving up one run on one hit.
Following him, Zach Russell relived Soucie on the mound going two innings with one strikeout, no runs and three hits.
Next, Parker Marlatt went one inning on the mound with two strikeouts and no hits. To end the night similarly, Brendan Sweeney also went one inning with two strikeouts and no hits.
